Description
This is an original watercolor from my own reference photo of a Venetian mascarone ( a carved, stone head on the keystone of an archway). This noble Venetian has been watching the entrance of this palazzo for about five hundred years! It is part of my Memories of Venice series and is a great companion piece to my other mascarone paintings, The Gate Keeper and The Protectecto. After painting these stone faces, I somehow feel very close to them. They seem to watch over me:-)

Christiane, I love your pantings of Venice features. I'm back from there about a week ago - hope to lay some of my impressions on paper soon, Wish I could do it plein air right there!
Christiane Kingsley replied:
Tania, I fell in love with Venice about five years ago and have been back about 3 times since. I am hoping to go there again this fall...I can't get enough of that beauty. I am looking forward to seeing your work on Venice.
